Trips on the Duck River

|
|
The Duck River is a gentle river that features
beautiful cliffs, forested hillsides and calm water. It is a perfect
trip for beginners or novices and provides a relaxed day of paddling. The
Duck River is one of the longest rivers in Tennessee and is the second most
biologically diverse river in the U.S.
Your trip will last 4 to 5 hours and end just 15
minutes from downtown Columbia.
When you sign up for your trip you will receive
detailed information on where to meet, what to bring, and about your trip. |
 |
|
Higher Pursuits features
guided trips on the following sections of the Duck River:
 |
Section 1: Leftwich Bridge to Howard's
Bridge. This run is approximately 5 miles in length and
normally takes 4 to 5 hours to paddle. This section of the river
features remote paddling through the Yanahli Wilderness Management Area.
The trip is highlighted by several picturesque rock bluffs along the
river as well as opportunity to see various forms of wildlife found
along the Duck River. The river is gentle along this section and
has a few swifter sections. |
 |
Section 2: Howard's Bridge to Fountain
Creek. This section is approximately 4.5 miles in length and
normally takes 3 1/2 hours to 4 1/2 hours to paddle. This section
of the river has a rich history. Along the banks of the river you
can still see the site of an old mill. Legend has it that treasure
is hidden somewhere along the banks of this river. This area
of the river is very gentle and is a great place for novice paddlers to
learn to paddle or for experienced paddlers to enjoy a day out. |
