Trips on the Duck River

The Duck River is a gentle river that features beautiful cliffs, forested hillsides and calm water.  It is a perfect trip for beginners or novices and provides a relaxed day of paddling. The Duck River is one of the longest rivers in Tennessee and is the second most biologically diverse river in the U.S.

Your trip will last 4 to 5 hours and end just 15 minutes from downtown Columbia.

When you sign up for your trip you will receive detailed information on where to meet, what to bring, and about your trip.

Higher Pursuits features guided trips on the following sections of the Duck River:

bullet

Section 1:  Leftwich Bridge to Howard's Bridge.  This run is approximately 5 miles in length and normally takes 4 to 5 hours to paddle.  This section of the river features remote paddling through the Yanahli Wilderness Management Area.  The trip is highlighted by several picturesque rock bluffs along the river as well as opportunity to see various forms of wildlife found along the Duck River.  The river is gentle along this section and has a few swifter sections.

bullet

Section 2:  Howard's Bridge to Fountain Creek.  This section is approximately 4.5 miles in length and normally takes 3 1/2 hours to 4 1/2 hours to paddle.  This section of the river has a rich history.  Along the banks of the river you can still see the site of an old mill.  Legend has it that treasure is hidden somewhere along the banks of this river.  This area of the river is very gentle and is a great place for novice paddlers to learn to paddle or for experienced paddlers to enjoy a day out.

Higher Pursuits has Canoes and Kayaks available for this trip.

Trips on the Piney River

The Piney River begins just south of I-40 near Hwy 48 and meanders its way to the Duck River just west of Centerville, TN.  The Piney is known for its gorgeous rock formations and beautiful clear water.  Along its banks, you will see Tennessee Wildflowers and playful rock shoals.

The river has very few access points, which makes for a wonderfully relaxing trip with very few interruptions from the sound of cars or people.

Your trip will last approximately 4 hours and ends at the Pinewood Canoe & Camp near Pinewood, TN.

If you are not interested in a guided canoe or kayak trip and wish to just rent a canoe or kayak, we recommend the following outfitter on the Piney River:

Trips on the Buffalo River

Our canoe trips on the Buffalo River run a section of the river that is not as well known as the Flatwoods section of the river, but still has beautiful bluffs, rock formations, and an interesting twists and turns.

Your trip will begin near the Lewis and Wayne County line at the Riverside bridge and end approximately 5 1/2 miles later at the Buffalo Run Canoe Outfitter.  This trip typically lasts 3 to 4 hours

When you sign up for your trip you will receive detailed information on where to meet, what to bring, and about your trip.

If you are not interested in a guided canoe trip and just want to rent a canoe, we recommend the following outfitter on the Buffalo River:
